Kudos are in order: our friend Shari and her superstar Australian Kelpie Ozzie won “High scoring started dog” and “High Scoring Combined Other Breed” at the Australian Shepherd Club herding trial in Arlington, Washington last weekend! Shari tells us, “Ozzie was a Champion this weekend in Herding and handled & penned the most skittish sheep I’ve ever seen!” The great Ozzie is already an agility champion, and herding is just her latest challenge—“We’re hooked!” Shari adds.

Shari & her husband William also owned the unforgettable Australian Kelpie Nick Nick, one of our all-time favorite canines, and a champion both in the arena and in our hearts.

Here’s a photo of Ozzie when she was just starting her herding career — nothing quite like that Kelpie intensity!

Congrats, Ozzie & Shari!!!!!!!     xoxoxoxo  Cooper & Swirl

It’s only 17 miles up the hill, but spring comes late at 5,200+ feet…

We met new friends at the top of the ridge:

Owen the Lab, taking a sun break with his ski buddies.

And a talkative Gray Jay …

It felt like we were on top of the world & could see forever …

It made Swirl smile …

… and Cooper wag his tail–can you tell?

For these pound pups, it was a great day to be alive!

Have you ever-so-gently HALF awakened your beloved pooch…

… enough so that by raising his head just a tad, his body

…now unbalanced

begins to slip…

…and without quite waking completely,

…he is fully rearranged but still sleeping

–except at a lower elevation? Ha!

Priscilla caught our fav Boxer bad boy Jack doing just that.

Sweet Dreams, Jack!

zzzzzzzzzz…

One day Swirl plays in the last remnants of winter’s snow, then horray–the sun shines and the daffs are out! It is finally Spring!

There are mossy hide-y holes to check… green green grass to roll in…

and some cool little friends who have been gone for the long winter months have returned…

Hello, Kermit!

Welcome back!

Then, the next day–can you believe it–this:

Which was very confusing, especially to the hummingbirds!

We don’t mind, let’s play inside with the green squeaky ball.

You fickle Spring!

We’re lucky to live in a magical wood, filled with nooks and crannies where the forrest faeries live… Swirl gently explores (as is her nature), while brave Cooper boldly climbs over fallen trees and spongy spring moss…

Of course, it’s fun to play King of the Mountain!

Or hide under the giant fern that grows by the spring crocus…

Which brings us, Cooper, to a favorite spring poem:

“My idlest dreams go farthest, South to a land of fragrant springs

And rivers green beneath our boat-borne flutes and strings,

Back to a town of floating catkins mixed with golden dust

And crowds that fought to see the flowers.”

~  Li Lu  (937 – 978)

Not to the rainy Northwest, or the snowy East Coast…. We think they’ve all… gone to Macy’s!

Our friend Patricia checked out the incredible floral decorations at the venerable NYC institution, and they were spring-delicious, but what we loved to see were the photos from the pet parade held to welcome spring to the Big Apple!

From Basset Hounds to Bulldogs, Cooper wished he could join their fun in the sun…

Now, if spring would only come to us, too!

Like us, our fav Boxer boy, Jack, would like to shake off the last of winter’s snow!

“Snow be gone!” says  the Coopster. We second the motion!
